6/28: In the room where it happened

Today, we travelled to Yokohama to visit the Overseas Migration Museum. Initially, I though this museum was going to be about the immigrants to Japan, but it turned out to be about the emigrants from Japan. It was an eyeopening experience about the hardships that the Japanese faced overseas trying to adjust to a new home. Afterwards, we had some free time to explore Yokohama and stumbled upon a red brick building that appeared to be used as a packing house or pier terminal; it reminded me of the buildings that line the piers along the Embarcadero. Upon going inside, we discovered that it was a market hall with locally produced goods just like Pike Place Market minus the food. From there we ventured to Chinatown to see if it was any different from the ones in the United States (it was not). After returning to Tokyo, we stopped by a chocolatier featured on BuzzFeed's WorthIt series. The cake was delicious and indeed worth it. Hungry for dinner, our group found a sushi restaurant nearby, and to our surprise, were seated in a private room complete with a sliding paper door and tatami mat floors. Along with the delicious sashimi, the entire experience was one I will never forget. Given this is our first weekend in Tokyo, we decided to go out and experience the nightlife near Shinjuku. It was a fun time with some delicious drinks. Although, I learned going out is a pricey activity.
